I have looked pretty hard and sure would appreciate any help.

You can get multi-adaptors with and input from a 12v car lighter and interchangeable output voltages and tips.





Try Maplin Electronics (UK) or shop like Radio Shack (if they are still around) in the us. Most electronic hobby shops will be able to help.





You will need to know the voltage your mp3 player uses (it will be on the back somewhere).
