Find the length of the side not given for a right triangle with hypotenuse c and legs a and b?
14. (for this problem, do you mean c = 2 or c = 2^2?)

if c = 2:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 1^2 = 2^2

a^2 + 1 = 4

a^2 = 3

a = sqrt(3)

if c = 2^2 (c = 4)

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a^2 + 1^2 = 4^2

a^2 + 1 = 16

a^2 = 15

a = sqrt(15)

16. (do you mean a = 3 %26amp; b = 5 or a = 3^2 %26amp; b = 5^2)

if a = 3 %26amp; b = 5

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

3^2 + 5^2 = c^2

9 + 25 = c^2

34 = c^2

c = sqrt(34)

if a = 3^2 %26amp; b = 5^2 (a = 9 %26amp; b = 25)

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

9^2 + 25^2 = c^2

81 + 625 = c^2

706 = c^2

c = sqrt(706)
Reply:14. b=1,c=2 squared

I assume you're having problems writing/typing c = 2² or 4.

Let's be clear here. If C = 4 then

a=√(4² - 1²) = √15

16. a=3 squared,b=5 squared translates to

a=3²=9 and b=5²=25

so c= √[9² + 25²] = √706 ≈ 26.571
Reply:14. 1x1 =1 2x2=4 b=1 c =4 4-1 =square root 3=1.732

16.3x3=9 5x5=25 25+9=34 c = square root 34=5.830
