I need to find out if the A/C repairman that worked on my air conditioner is knowledgable or not?

As a professional in this industry for 20 plus years, union trained, it pains me to know the amount of dishonesty in this business. Here is the answer: Your refrigeration cycle works on the principal of changing the state of matter (refrigerant) from a gas to a liquid to a gas and so on, that is why the outside unit is called the condenser and the inside unit is called the evaporator. With this in mind, Your unit should achieve 12-15degrees of SUBCOOLING on the condenser side and 10-18 degrees of SUPERHEAT on the evaporator side. Simply ask what should my subcooling be and superheat be. These are basic refrigeration principles and any repairman worth his salt could answer these questions (within a few degrees) off the top of his head quickly and confidently. There are a few old timers that are good repairmen that wouldn't be able to answer these questions but they would probably be to old to do any substantial work. Good luck in your quest to find a good and trustworthy ac man, there are a few of us out there!

What do you need to know. Ask him to explain how the A/C cycle works. You can find that information at http://www.warmair.com/ they compare his answers. In order to troubleshoot a problem, a technician needs to understand how it works. This applies to any field.
Reply:It's normally a better idea to find this out before you allow someone to do the work! You can check with state licensing board to see if he is licensed, assuming you live in a state that licenses contractors! If you find out either positive or negative results this way however, I'm not sure you can legally do anything though! Always check on licenses and insurance before you allow any work on your home from now on!
Reply:Most all licensed and certified a/c echnicians are knowledgeble about the products. Some are more knowledgeable than others, depending on their yers of expeerience.

We dont know what he did OR why you are questioning him/her.

Provide more information.
